Course Overview:
This course provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary review of the management of patients who undergo amputation, from the perioperative period through outpatient management. This program will help clinicians understand how the care they render may impact an amputee’s future functional status.
Highlights of this course will include: perspectives of amputee care from an interdisciplinary faculty, practical information for hands on care and learning points that will assist the clinician in educating patients about future expectations and function.
Objectives:
Learn about important concepts in the care of the amputee patient including:
• acute and long term management of the amputee patient
• decision making regarding amputation level
• how amputation level affects prosthetic candidacy and functional expectations
• importance of postoperative care in the success of an amputee patient and
• management of common problems encountered in the community setting
