


Stipend levels increase with each year of orthopaedic training. The salary scale is made available during the interview process.

Health, dental and vision insurance plans are provided for the house staff and their dependents through UniCare or Health Net.
Members of the house staff are eligible for three weeks of vacation and five days of educational leave annually. All leaves must accommodate the needs of the service on which the resident is rotating and must have the prior approval of the Chief of Service and the Department Chairman. The UCSF House Staff Information Booklet contains a description of policies and general responsibilities for residents at UCSF.
The Office of the Dean of the School of Medicine will provide forms for residents who are unlicensed to register with the Medical Board of California until they obtain their licenses. Residents may practice for their first and second postgraduate years under this arrangement. All residents are required to have a California medical license before they begin their third postgraduate year of training.
The University Housing Office located in the Guy S. Millberry Union on the UCSF campus maintains a bulletin board with a listing of off-campus housing. The listing is provided for information only to assist in the location of suitable housing.
UCSF provides a housing stipend of $6,000/year in addition to the standard resident salary to help defray the cost of living in the bay area.
