Research Overview

The research mission of the University of California, San Francisco Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is to better understand a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions at the molecular level to the clinical condition, and use our research findings to develop better treatments for orthopaedic conditions. Through collaboration within the department as well as other research groups at UCSF, we are able to perform cutting edge research that is advancing the frontiers of orthopaedic science.

The research is supported in part by grants from the NIH, Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF), American Association of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthritis Foundation, as well as many other institutions. The research performed also allow for opportunities for post-doctoral students, graduate students, fellows, residents, medical students, and undergraduates to participate in the development and implementation of these studies.
