Clinical Research

Trauma Research

The UCSF/SFGH Orthopaedic Research Laboratories conduct world-class research on musculoskeletal injury and repair. The laboratories include a Bio Mechanics Research Laboratory, directed by Christian Puttlitz, PhD, and a Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory, headed by Ralph Marcucio, PhD. The team of research scientists includes orthopaedic surgeons, research physicians, and PhD scientists. The research laboratories are capable of performing a wide range of research, second to no other public Level 1 trauma center in the United States. The lab is a training facility for post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, orthopaedic residents, and medical and undergraduate students.
