About Us
For over 3 decades, San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) has been a national leader in orthopaedic trauma, as a pioneer, role model, and as a training ground for surgeons committed to excellence. Due to this tradition of excellence and dedication, the San Francisco Bay Area continues to benefit from full access to high quality trauma care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. SFGH is San Francisco’s trauma center (Level I) and is the safety net for both San Franciscans and northern Californians who sustain injures due to motor vehicle crashes, falls, assaults or terror events.
The UCSF/SFGH Orthopaedic Trauma Center is staffed with surgeons and physicians from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF. Its staff provides expert care for all aspects of trauma care, including inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic surgical care, rehabilitation, and orthotics and prosthetics. As SFGH is a component of the Community Health Network operated by the City/County of San Francisco, the Center also provides essential general orthopaedic care to the citizens of San Francisco, regardless of ability to pay.
The SFGH campus is the training facility for orthopaedic trauma for the University of California, San Francisco, one of the premier orthopaedic surgery residencies in the country. Its graduates include alumni who range from worldwide leaders in orthopaedic trauma to Bay Area orthopaedic surgeons. The UCSF/SFGH trauma center carries forth its mission to be a leader in orthopaedic trauma through its work in patient care, education, and research.
