SFGH and San Francisco

San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) is a licensed general acute care hospital, which is owned and operated by the City and County of San Francisco, Department of Public Health. SFGH has a reputation as one of the best public hospitals and trauma centers in the country. Through its long-standing affiliation with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), SFGH is staffed by UCSF physicians. SFGH serves as a major training site to one of the top medical programs in the country, and is UCSF's primary center for trauma training. SFGH provides a full complement of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, skilled nursing, diagnostic, mental health, and rehabilitation services for adults and children. SFGH is the largest acute inpatient and rehabilitation facility in the city, providing top quality medical care to over 1 million patients annually, regardless of their financial means.

A s a Level 1 Trauma Center, SFGH is the trauma hospital for 1.5 million residents living in or traveling through San Francisco and northern San Mateo County. Approximately one out of three people will suffer a traumatic injury during their lifetime, and SFGH provides 24-hour comprehensive emergent, urgent and non-urgent care to 65,000 adult and pediatric patients annually. In addition to its commitment to providing the best patient care to a diverse population, SFGH is also a center for innovative research. With an annual budget over $83 million, the SFGH campus is home to more than 160 principal investigators in 20 UCSF research centers, affiliated institutes, and major laboratories.
