Biomechanical Testing Facility
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has been conducting high quality clinical and basic science research at the University of California, San Francisco for many years. Partnerships with orthopaedic industry sponsors have become a significant component of our research program, and, in response, we have developed the Biomechanical Testing Facility (BTF) to create an administrative and technical core to facilitate efficient project management.
Our mission is to conduct high quality research leading to clinical and basic science advancements in Orthopaedics. As part of the UCSF academic community, we encourage industry sponsors to collaborate
with our faculty clinician-scientists; and, when appropriate, we use industry-sponsored projects to train young scientists to perform innovative, clinically-motivated research.
We partner with industry to conduct research in the following areas:
- Musculoskeletal disease pathomechanics.
- Development and evaluation of promising new orthopaedic technologies.
- Creation of testing standards for crossproduct comparisons of existing medical devices.
