Approximately 52 million Americans sustain injuries annually, over half of which are musculoskeletal. These figures include over 6 million fractures. Advances in fracture treatment have increased survival from major trauma by a factor of three and shortened the length of hospital stays by factor 5, when compared to prior treatment modalities. Improved quality of life, more effective rehabilitation, and faster return to work are undisputed benefits of progressive fracture care. The UCSF/SFGH Orthopaedic Trauma Center is committed to disseminating new advances in musculoskeltal injury care and cutting-edge basic research through educational programs in the Bay Area and the nation.
