John F. Houston, III, MPA
Division Director
John Houston was born in Naples Italy and grew up in Cupertino California. He graduated from the American University in 1989. In 1990 he enlisted in the Army and was selected to serve with the Presidential Honor Guard. While serving with the Old Guard he received his masters’ degree in Public Administration and National Security from Troy State University in 1992.
After leaving the Army in 1993 John relocated to Ohio were he developed an expertise in operations management while working in manufacturing. His skills in facility start-up, profit-building, new business development, financial operations, and systems administration, including organizational development and maximizing performance were valuable assets when he changed careers and moved across the country to join the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in August 2002.
Since Mr. Houston’s arrival he has proved a resourceful, creative, and solution-oriented person who frequently is able to come up with new and innovative approaches to assigned projects. He functions well as a team leader when required, and he works effectively as a team member under the direction of other team leaders.
