Dr. Richard Coughlin, MD, MSc, a specialist in foot and ankle repair, is lecturing at the Teach • Travel • Learn: Volunteering with Orthopaedics Overseas workshop in Washington D.C. today and tomorrow. This work shop is designed to prepare participants for overseas volunteer assignments and provide them with specific skills for teaching orthopaedics in developing countries. Being an effective volunteer requires considerable preparation, both personally and professionally. Teaching in another culture not only requires an understanding of the clinical material, but also an ability to effectively communicate that material.
