Institute for Global Orthopedics and Traumatology

Every year, 5.8 million people die from orthopaedic trauma and other injuries, with 95% of these deaths occurring in developing countries. This accounts for 10% of the world’s deaths, 32% more than the fatalities from HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria combined. Trauma is the leading cause of death for children worldwide. For every person who dies from trauma, many more are injured, with temporary or permanent disability.

IGOT partners with institutions around the world to find sustainable solutions to these issues through research, collaboration, and capacity building.
