Partner Institutions

Our global network of partner institutions is key to our work at IGOT. Our partner institutions are research institutions in resource-constrained environments that we collaborate with on research, capacity building, and other projects.

 

Bedford Orthopaedic Centre: Mthatha, South Africa

The Bedford Orthopaedic Centre is the only tertiary specialty care hospital serving over 4 million people in the greater Mthatha region in the South Eastern Cape of South Africa.

 

 

 

Black Lion Hospital: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Black Lion Hospital is one of only two University hospitals in Ethiopia and the largest general public hospital in Addis Ababa.

 

 

 

Hospital Antonio Lenin Fonseca: Managua, Nicaragua

One of the main national referral hospitals in Managua Nicaragua, Hospital Antonio Lenin Fonseca serves as a teaching institution for orthopaedic training programs, and a site for service-based NGOs.

 

 

Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children: Katmandu, Nepal

The HRDC is a program of a non-governmental organization, the Friends of the Disabled. It is a tertiary level pediatric orthopaedic hospital in the country located in Banepa which provides high quality reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation for children under 16 years of age.

 

 

King Edward Medical University and Mayo Hospital: Lahore, Pakistan

The King Edward Meical University and Mayo Hospital serves the health care needs of Pakistan by educating practitioners to the highest international standards and by stimulating innovation through research.

 

 

Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital: Kumasi, Ghana

Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is located in Kumasi, the Regional Capital of Ashanti Region.  The hospital became a teaching hospital in 1975 for the training of medical students in collaboration with the School of Medical Sciences of the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.

 

MOI Teaching and Referring Hospital: El Doret, Kenya

The MOI Teaching and Referral Hospital is the second National Referral Hospital in Kenya. The Hospital is located in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu District, in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya.

 

 

Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

It is the mission of Muhimbili National Hospital (NMH) to provide effective, efficient and high quality tertiary specialist medical services for referred patients from all areas of Tanzania, while providing an environment for training and research.

 

 

Mulago Orthopaedic Hospital: Kampala, Uganda

Mulago Hospital is the national referral hospital of Uganda and serves as a central teaching institution for the country.

 

 

 

 

National Military Academic Hospital NMAH: Kabul, Afghanistan

IGOT’s partnership with NMAH began in 2008 through our associate member Dr. Robert Detch.  Dr. Detch and IGOT facilitated the development of an orthopaedic curriculum for Afghan medical students during his service as a mentor to surgeons while stationed in Kabul with the U.S. Navy.

African Medical Mission
Improving the health and well-being of families in Eastern Cape, South Africa since 1981, the African Medical Mission (AMM) is an affiliate of IGOT through their efforts at the Bedford Orthopaedic Center.

 

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
Founded in 1933, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) is the preeminent provider of musculoskeletal education to orthopaedic surgeons and others in the world. Its continuing medical education activities include a world-renowned Annual Meeting where IGOT participates in the International Symposium, Orthopaedics Overseas luncheon, and are speakers.  Dr. Rick Coughlin serves on the board of the International Committee and IGOT supports the AAOS International Scholarship Program through hosting as an obersevership site.

 

Cooperative Orthopedics between Nicaragua and America
Founded in 2002, Cooperación Ortopédica Americano Nicargüense (COAN) is not-for-profit organization committed to optimizing the healthcare and well-being of the people of Nicaragua.  COAN works at our partner institution in Managua, Nicaragua.

 

Global Partners in Anesthesia and Surgery

GPAS is a multidisciplinary collaboration focused on developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies that improve surgical and perioperative care capacity in resource-poor settings.

 

Health Volunteers Overseas
Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) is a network of health care professionals, organizations, corporations and donors united in a common commitment to improving global health through education.  HVO co-hosts a Teach Travel Learn workshop with AAOS for orthopaedists interested in volunteering and IGOT members serve as instructors.

 

Operation Rainbow
Operation Rainbow is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to performing free orthopedic surgery for indigent children and young adults in developing countries worldwide who do not have access to related medical procedures or equipment.

 

Orthopaedic Trauma Association
The mission of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) is to promote excellence in care for the injured patient, through provision of scientific forums and support of musculoskeletal research and education of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the public.

 

Osteosynthesis and Trauma Care Foundation

We directly educate through worldwide CME accredited courses & events, forums and fellowships. We support research with grants, publications and symposia through knowledge sharing and wisdom. We also offer services to independent local OTC Chapters, interlinking them through common meetings and addressing them and their members directly via our global web platform. This web platform also connects interested members with selected humanitarian projects.

 

Société Haitienne de Traumatologie et d’Orthopedie (SHOT)
The Société Haitienne de Traumatologie et d’Orthopedie (SHOT) is the national association for orthopaedic surgeons in Haiti.

 

Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie
Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT) is an international non-profit association incorporated under Belgian law with the aim to advance the science and art of orthopaedics and traumatology at an international level and to foster and develop teaching, research and education.

 

Surgical Implant Generation Network
The worldwide network of SIGN surgeons, trained in the SIGN technique and equipped with SIGN intramedullary (IM) nails, treat these severely injured patients. By providing surgeons in developing nations with training and instrumentation, SIGN is successfully building local orthopaedic surgical capability and improving the quality of fracture care for the injured poor.

UCSB Department of Global & International Studies
