Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral Orthosis (TLSO)

A plastic body jacket used for a variety of diagnoses including post-operative protection, scoliosis, and vertebral fractures.

Examples:

  • Bi-valve TLSO: A custom brace that is used to protect against excess bending and twisting during post-operative spine surgery recovery. It is made with very light weight 1/16” plastic and soft padding.
  • Scoliosis TLSO: A custom total contact plastic body jacket that holds the scoliotic spine (a spine with at least one lateral curve) in as straight a position as possible. If worn tight and at least 22 hours per day, the risk of curve(s) progression is greatly reduced.
  • Jewett Hyperextension Orthosis, or CASH Brace: A brace that eliminates forward bending and can limit side bending of the spine. This is commonly used to treat vertebral compression fractures.
