WHAT is PlaySafe?

 

We are a non-profit, community outreach program of the UCSF Department of Sports Medicine. We are committed to providing the highest quality sports medicine care to San Francisco Unified School District high school student athletes, many of whom represent underserved and uninsured populations.

 

WHO is PlaySafe?

 

We are highly qualified Certified Athletic Trainers, Primary Care Sports Medicine Physicians, and Orthopaedic Surgeons who provide sports medicine care to the SFUSD high schools using a team-oriented approach. Click here to meet our team.

 

WHY PlaySafe?

 

Established in 2002, PlaySafe was created to address the need for sports medicine services and education in the SFUSD high schools and to promote physically active lifestyles in student athletes of the San Francisco area.

 

WHEN is PlaySafe at your school?

 

PlaySafe provides weekly sports medicine care at each SFUSD high school. Click here for the date and time when a Certified Athletic Trainer will be at your school.

 

PlaySafe's work to date.

 

Since its inception in 2002, PlaySafe has continuously demonstrated a commitment to our community through our dedicated efforts to:

 

 

  • Provide athletic trainers and sports medicine physicians for all SFUSD high school football contests.
     
  • Conduct FREE sports medicine clinics for student-athletes with athletic injuries and illnesses.
     
  • Establish athletic health care training rooms and weekly care in the SFUSD high schools.
     
  • Conduct the annual Wrestling Weight Management Program Assessments.
     
  • Deliver educational seminars to athletic teams, coaches, and referees.
     
  • Develop after-school training and research programs.

 

HOW can you get involved with PlaySafe?

We welcome contributions from individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations who share in our vision to ensure safety in athletic participation, provide access to medical professionals, and promote physically active lifestyles in the young population of the San Francisco area.
