2010-2011 Athletic Summary
Sir Francis Drake High School has had many great sporting accomplishments in the past few years. Collectively, the entire athletic department at Drake has been honored with the Marin Catholic Athletic League (MCAL) Sportsmanship Award the past 2 out of 3 years. This award is based on voting from every head coach, AD, and principal for every sport throughout the academic year. Last year Drake had several great sporting highlights including the boys and girls water polo programs. The boys varsity polo team has been dominate over the past decade with several MCAL championships and NCS tournament appearances and the girls’ team recently won the 2011 MCAL championship. In cross country, both the boys and girls teams won MCAL in 2010, and this year standout varsity runner John Lawson qualified and won the CA State Division IV Title with a time of 15:20 for 3.1 miles. In wrestling, Drake’s team was led by 6 female wrestlers and senior Alanna Hamilton was the first Drake wrestler to qualify for the CA state tournament competing in her 146lbs. weight class. The boys volleyball team is consistently dominate and last year, senior Josh Birnbaum was honored with the MCAL League MVP award in 2011.
