Alex Hetherington CP

With an undergraduate degree in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley, Alex has conducted medical device research in both industry and academia. Hoping to translate his engineering background to patient care, he completed his prosthetics residency at UCSF and recently joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. As an advocate of the team approach to rehabilitation, Alex coordinates care and implements treatment plans for both upper and lower extremity prosthetic prescriptions at San Francisco General Hospital and the Orthopaedic Institute at Mission Bay. He also leads research initiatives aimed at defining greater patient outcomes and novel prosthetic concepts. As an avid triathlete who has volunteered with the Challenged Athletes Foundation, Alex's interests lie in sport-specific prostheses and an amputee athlete training program.
