Mohammad Diab MD

Dr. Diab was born in Cairo and raised in the United Kingdom. He came to the United States in 1979 to attend college in the Bay Area, which he regards as his home and where he met his wife, a native San Franciscan.

Dr. Diab's practice encompasses all musculoskeletal conditions in children, including spine deformity, hip dysplasia, fractures, foot disorders, osteotomy and other complex reconstructive techniques. He is nationally and internationally recognized in the field of paediatric orthopaedics, having published and spoken extensively on a wide variety of topics, and being the editor of the standard text-book Principles of Pediatric Orthopedics. He also has an interest in the history of medicine, which has found expression in his book on medical language titled "Lexicon of Orthopaedic Etymology".

Dr. Diab is deeply committed to the education of medical students and post-graduate trainees. He holds the endowed Chair in Medical Education for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a member of the Academy of Medical Educators at UCSF. He is mentor in the Miller-Diab College at UCSF, where he is in charge of one-quarter of the student body, from the White Coat Ceremony during orientation until graduation. Finally, Dr. Diab is Director of the Surgical Subspecialities required elective that all medical students take at UCSF.
