Thank you for your interest in the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Residency Program. Every year, we participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). You will need to contact your medical school Dean's Office to access the ERAS web based application through the NRMP website. You will need three letters of recommendation, including one from a professor of surgery (preferably an Orthopaedic surgeon), one from a non-surgical specialty, and one of your choice. It is your responsibility to make sure all your reference letters are submitted through ERAS.
Include a personal statement as part of your ERAS application. Our interview committee is interested in why you have chosen a career in orthopaedics and what makes you stand out as an individual.
Interviews will be by invitation sent by e-mail the second week of December. There will be two interview dates in January: Session I: Friday, Jan 18, 2008 and Session II: Saturday, Jan 26, 2008. Five PGY-1 positions are offered through the NRMP for the five-year orthopaedic educational program. In PGY-1 position is offered through the NRMP for a six-year orthopaedic education program, which includes one year of research at the the end of PGY-3 year.
If you have any questions regarding the application process or if you are interested in doing an orthopaedic elective at UCSF/SFGH, please call or email Delphean Quan (quand@orthosurg.ucsf.edu), our Residency Coordinator at (415) 476-6043.
Sincerely,
Thomas Parker Vail, M.D
